چکیده

Analog approaches are expected to offer dramatically low power consumption in smart antennas, especially for battery-operated wireless terminal devices. This paper overviews recently developed analog antenna techniques for smart beamforming. Hardware architectures, trainedand blind-control criteria, and adaptation algorithms are introduced along with state-of-the-art devices and a practical experiment.

Reflections on Smart Antennas for MAC Protocols in Multihop Ad Hoc Networks

Smart and directional antennas can be used to improve the throughput performance of wireless communications in ad hoc networks. This improvement consists basically of minimizing collision and increasing simultaneous communications. Directional antennas reduce potential collision zone since data packets are directionally transmitted. Smart antennas are more intelligent than directional antennas ...

An Overview of Smart Antennas and Its Techinques Beamforming and Diversity

Smart antennas are systems attract lot attentions now and believably more in the future, as it can increase the capacity of mobile communication systems dramatically. Design of smart antenna systems combines the technologies of antenna design, signal processing, and hardware implementation. : A smart antenna is therefore a phased or adaptive array that adjusts to the environment. That is, for t...

Performance Analysis of Direction of Arrival Estimation Algorithms in Smart Antennas

The goal of this paper is to give a brief overview on smart antennas, before analyzing some popular algorithms from this domain in MATLAB and providing simulation results(especially a parametric study of the algorithms), in order to enhance understanding of the possibilities, but also the limitations of these algorithms. The main focus is on Direction of Arrival (DOA) algorithm called beamformi...

Modeling Smart Antennas in Synchronous Ad Hoc Networks Using OPNET’s Pipeline Stages

Smart antennas have been proposed as a physical layer device that can increase the capacity of ad hoc networks. The effectiveness of smart antennas depends on whether access mechanisms create the conditions that enable receivers to adapt to both desired signals and interfering signals and enable transmitters to discern where they must avoid causing interference. The ease of implementing solutio...

Analog to Digital Converter: a Key Concept in the Implementation of a 3G Software Defined Radio Receiver

With the dawn of a new millennium we find ourselves one step before the emergence of the third generation (3G) mobile communications systems in the world market. The implementation of the 3G and furthermore 4G mobile communications systems is included within the intentions of the so-called software defined radio (SDR) systems [1]. The design, development and the implementation of SDR systems ar...
